Pass Along Scarf! [12 Jun 2009|01:32pm]

alipharmy
I'm trying to start a cool mail art project, the Pass-Along Scarf.

If you would like to participate, you will receive 1 sloppily hand-knitted scarf in the mail. Your mission will be to add onto the scarf in some way - you can knit, crochet, sew things, paint, ravel/unravel, or what have you.

The next step is to photograph yourself wearing the improved-upon scarf and send me the pictures (aleeeacorn@gmail.com) so that I can start assembling them into some sort of bloggy type thing.

The last step is to pass along the scarf to someone new!

Please email me with your mailing address, and we can get this party started.

Jeez. This is sucky. [26 Jan 2007|10:48am]

[ mood | indifferent ]

I can see that this community up and died, which makes me feel awfully depressed. I think the main problem is that many people who love to mail random things to other people don't get to see this community. I had a lot of younger people interested, which isn't a problem in itself, but I'd like people in their 20s and 30s to start joining and posting.

I dont give a shit who joins, but I like to moderate this to make sure that people aren't joining who give others the shaft. I've done way too may "trades" in the mail that ended up being one sided.

If you read this post and you have any ideas, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know. Myspace, other communities on LJ, whatever. I dont want to bother people with annoying "Join my Community" posts, but in the same breath, I want people to join and actually do some trades.

Please contact me with any thoughts!!!

For anyone who's a member of Facebook... despite relentless searching, I could not find a mail art group on the site. So, I took the liberty of starting one myself.

If you're on Facebook, you should join.

Post mail art calls, recent things you've sent or received, swap addresses, and get the place moving!

Has anyone in here been doing any successful trades?

If so, POST ABOUT IT. Post a picture of some of your goodies, or just a little summary of what you got.

Are you corresponding with anyone from here, or submitting anything to their zines or other projects? TELL US ABOUT IT!!!!

I want this community to thrive- we have a lot of great people in here, and a huge chance at becoming an extremely active trading community. So help me out! ;)

Thanks and happy snail mailing...

I need your help. [01 Feb 2006|01:23pm]

I'm not a professional songwriter or a recording artist. I just like to dabble at home and stuff. With that out of the way...

I need your help. This is something I simply cannot do on my own.

I need you to record (by whatever means you please) a clip of yourself saying "I love you" and email it as an attachment in any audio format to me at mika@jella.net. I don't care how scratchy it sounds, or whatever. Quality isn't important, what matters is that you say it like you mean it.

Please help me out.

Hello! I've been a long time member of this community and I'm looking for some new penpals. Lately, I've had people propose to be my snail mail buddy but then they never send anything and that makes me a little sad. ._. However, I am very willing to get some new friends! I love doing unique swaps! For my first swap, I'd like to trade a package (or one of those 6x9 envelopes) filled with art, mini comics, writings, homemade items, anime items and other cute things! If anyone is interested, comment with your email and we'll discuss things further! :D Please, only people who are serious about it.

Art Gone Postal! [20 Dec 2005|02:08pm]

offbeatnik

(x-posted to several communities interested in mail art)

A friend and I recently started a project that may interest some people in this community. After talking many times about how the postal service can be so fascinating in terms of transportation from anywhere on the globe, and how that pertains to art, we came up with a means for creating an online gallery of sorts for mail art. Called The Envelope Collective, we've set up an address to collect mail art from all over the world. Every piece we receive is photo-documented and uploaded to the website daily.

I didn't want to start this project without a more over-reaching goal in mind, and so we plan to document these submissions into a book as well. The proceeds from the book will go towards a charity/charities that benefit the arts in some way. There are several that we have in mind, all of which have different goals; the one I am most fond of uses money donated to buy and deliver art supplies to areas where people don't have the means, such as the Middle East and Africa. If the project continues to grow, we do plan to keep putting out books to help these charities.

So far the response has been amazing, and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Thanks for listening and happy holidays,

Garrett
